MATTHEWS — The town has named C.J. O’Neill as its new public works director. “Our team is very excited about C.J. and the history we have with him,” said Hazen Blodgett, town manager, in a statement. “His knowledge of the department and established relationships with his peers make him a natural fit for the job. We look forward to working with him in this new chapter of his career.” O’Neill had been the town’s engineer since 2006, and was responsible for the design, review and inspection of new streets, as well as residential and commercial development projects. He was also in charge of infrastructure. “I appreciate the confidence the town manager has shown in my ability to lead the public works department,” O’Neill said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Matthews.” In his new role, O’Neill will oversee all public works department divisions, manage the department’s operations and budget and administer long-term and capital projects.
