N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory drove through a ribbon commemorating the completion of the Interstate 485 outer loop in northeast Charlotte on Friday. During a speech, McCrory thanked local officials and community members for their work on and support of the project. Those he thanked included longtime transportation-improvement advocate and residential real estate professional H. Allen Tate Jr., for whom the last span is named. The final 5.7-mile section of I-485 stretches from Old Statesville Road to Interstate 85. It completes the 67-mile loop around Charlotte, an important corridor
for local and regional travel.
