DETROIT – Work is taking place on a project to use empty shipping containers for new housing in Detroit.
The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/1FPgRr4 ) construction began this week on a three-story model unit in the city’s Corktown neighborhood.
Built by a business called Three Squared, the project first proposed in 2008 is designed as one of several larger shipping container projects. Leslie Horn, CEO of Three Squared, says: “Until you really build something, people don’t believe you can do it.”
The project isn’t related to another proposed shipping-container project that would create a boutique hotel in Detroit’s Eastern Market area.
