MATTHEWS – The Board of Commissioners on Monday voted to defer a public hearing on a rezoning request that would allow the construction of a 320-unit apartment complex on Monroe Road, across from the Family Dollar headquarters. The new public hearing will be held on May 11, according to Town Clerk Lori Canapinno.
The petitioner, Keith MacVean of Moore & Van Allen Law Firm, on behalf of Everlane Development, asked for the public hearing to be deferred to allow additional work on site-plan changes and revisions.
Everlane Development initially sought to rezone the land to both a conditional multifamily classification and an R-12 classification, but it was determined that the conditional classification wasn’t the best fit for the site. The petitioner is expected to change the rezoning request to only ask for a change to the R-12 classification.
