Construction employment in North Carolina increased by 6.4 percent between January 2014 and January 2015, and increased 1.5 percent between December and January, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.
North Carolina ranked 15th for employment growth between January 2014 and January 2015, and 18th for employment growth between December and January.
Including North Carolina, construction employment increased in 43 states and in Washington, D.C., between January 2014 and January 2015, and in 31 states and Washington, D.C. between December and January.
North Dakota had the biggest increase in construction employment in the year ending in January, at 13.4 percent, and Arkansas had the biggest increase in construction employment between December and January, at 4.9 percent.
The biggest year-over-year decrease in construction employment was in Mississippi, where it dropped 12.7 percent, and the biggest decrease from December to January was in Louisiana, where it dropped 2.8 percent.
