The towns of Harrisburg and Indian Trail were recently ranked among the top 10 most affordable housing markets in North Carolina by SmartAsset.
Cities with populations greater than 5,000 qualified for the ranking, and financial website SmartAsset analyzed cities based on closing costs, real estate taxes, homeowners insurance and mortgage rates. The most affordable cities had total housing costs on an average house accounting for the smallest proportion of the median income.
Harrisburg ranked seventh and Indian Trail ninth.
Ranked first was Knightdale in Wake County, followed by Clayton near Raleigh, Cherryville in Gaston County, Lewisville in Forsyth County, Winterville near Greenville, Holly Springs in Wake County, Harrisburg, Kings Mountain, Indian Trail and Garner in Wake County.
