CHARLOTTE – Charlotte ranks sort of middling among 100 best and worst cities for an active lifestyle, according to WalletHub.
But the Queen City beats the Under Armour off Detroit for the number of fitness trainers and aerobics instructors per capita: Charlotte boasts 20 times more.
The online financial information company looked at the costs of activities such as golf and monthly fitness club fees; the number of sporting goods stores and sports clubs; the percentage of people who are physically active; the number of places for them to go for exercise; and the weather.
Charlotte ranked 63rd overall; 38rd in costs and participation, but 77th in sports facilities and outdoor environment.
Omaha, Neb., ranked first, followed by Portland, Ore.; Pittsburgh; Reno, Nev.; and Orlando, Fla. At the bottom was Laredo, Texas. Joining Laredo in the bottom five were Hialeah, Fla.; Arlington, Texas; and Newark and Jersey City, N.J.
