RALEIGH — The North Carolina Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit that was filed to block North Carolina State University’s endowment from selling the Hoffman Forest near Jacksonville.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the justices acted without a request from either the endowment or those who sued seeking to stop the sale of the 79,000 acres.
The deal to sell the forest fell through early this month when the buyers could not get financing for their $131 million offer.
N.C. State officials said earlier this month they planned to find another buyer. The environmentalists and others who sued had said they wanted to continue the case.
The court already had hear arguments in the case.
A school spokesman said the school and its endowment respect the court decision.
