The Marshville Town Council will hold a public hearing Monday on an amendment to its zoning ordinance that would allow, by special use permit, solar energy production facilities on properties zoned RA-40, which is primarily for low-density single-family development.
BG Stewart Solar Farm LLC submitted a petition to the city in September, and the Marshville Planning Board has recommended that the council approve the text amendment.
Strata Solar, which sits on 90 acres of land in Marshville, began producing power at a 6 MW facility in September 2013. The facility produces enough electricity to provide power to almost 700 homes, according to Strata’s website.
Stewart Solar Farm received a certificate of public convenience and necessity from the North Carolina Utilities Commission on Oct. 21 for a 5 MW facility in Union County.
