The N.C. Department of Commerce has published a list of occupations that present promising opportunities for the state’s workforce through the year 2020. The “Hot Jobs” list is based on information that includes average annual wage, projected number of new jobs and vacancies in 2013.
In Mecklenburg County, for those with a bachelor’s degree or higher, the outlook is good for financial analysts; securities and commodities sales agents; marketing managers; civil and mechanical engineers; pharmacists; accountants and auditors; and computer and information systems managers.
Those with some college, postsecondary training or an associate’s degree might want to consider entering the following fields: nursing; heating and air conditioning mechanics and installation; construction management; respiratory therapy; firefighting; paralegal and legal assistance; general and operations management; massage therapy; and dental hygiene.
For those with a high school diploma and some work experience, the outlook is favorable for sales representatives; loan officers; plumbers; real estate agents; police officers; first-line supervisors and auto-service technicians and mechanics.
