Developers to build second Skyhouse tower in Uptown

SkyhouseThe developers of the Skyhouse Uptown, an apartment tower under construction at Church and 10th streets, are in negotiations for a second apartment building.

Novare Group spokesman Thornton Kennedy said the company is under contract to purchase the site of the City Center Inn on North Tryon Street.

The second tower would be developed by Atlanta-based Novare Group, Grubb Properties and Batson-Cook Development Co., according to Kennedy.

Earlier this spring, the developers broke ground on the $70 million Skyhouse Uptown, a 24-story mixed-use tower that will have 336 studio and one- and two-bedroom homes. The building is expected to take about one year to complete.

The City Center Inn property at 601 N. Tryon St. sits on just over .85 acres and is owned by Parks Dalton, county records show.

Novare Group and Batson-Cook Development Co. have partnered on 11 Skyhouse projects throughout the Southeast including Atlanta, Raleigh, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Texas, and Orlando and Tampa, Fla.

Novare Group has also developed two other residential towers in the Charlotte skyline: Catalyst and Avenue.

Since the company’s founding in 1992, the developer has built, managed and closed on more than 6,000 condos and apartments with 21 projects throughout the South. In addition, Novare Group has acquired or developed more than 1.4 million square feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of retail space.
