CHARLOTTE – Evidently last year’s power struggle at the airport didn’t have any impact on the number of planes arriving and departing Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The latest report from the Airports Council International said Charlotte Douglas was the seventh-busiest airport in the world based on airplane movements. Charlotte Douglas had 558,000 flights take off or land at the airport in 2013, up 1.1 percent from 2012.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was the busiest in terms of airplane movements, with 911,000 in 2013, followed by airports in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Denver and Beijing. Charlotte, Las Vegas, Houston and Paris rounded out the top 10, according to an ABC news report based on the rankings.
In 2013, Charlotte ranked 23rd in the world based on the number of passengers getting on and off airplanes. Hartsfield-Jackson also topped that list with more than 94 million passengers last year. Airports in Beijing, London, Tokyo and Chicago completed the top five.
