The Indian Trail Town Council will consider at its Jan. 14 meeting amendments to its unified development ordinance that it hopes will improve decisions on parks, art, recreation and culture in the town.
The amendments were recommended by the town’s Planning Board at its Dec. 17 meeting.
One was a text amendment to several sections of the UDO to help implement the council’s recent decision to repurpose the parks, tree and greenway committee into the parks, arts, recreating and culture (PARC) advisory committee.
The repurposing action also included the creation of a stand-alone tree advisory committee that will be staffed by members of the planning board. Amendments are proposed also for chapters involving the Planning Board; buffer yards, parking lots and street frontages; tree preservation and protection; park, recreation and open space dedication; and tree and landscaping definitions.
The planning board believes these proposed amendments will help ensure that guidance related to parks, art, recreation and cultural enrichment is provided by the PARC committee. Indian Trail has grown rapidly in recent years, to about 35,000 people today, and the town’s aim is to create focused advisory committees that will ensure that the Town Council, staff and citizens are provided with meaningful and informed guidance.
