Charlotte Citizen Review Board

City Council on Monday night voted unanimously to give more power to the Citizen Review Board, an 11-member volunteer board that monitors complaints against the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Former Mayor Anthony Foxx earlier this year asked city officials to look into the procedures of police review after it was discovered that the Citizen Review Board had never sided against CMPD.

Under the new ordinance passed by Council, residents requesting a hearing from the board won’t be required to meet as many conditions to receive the hearing. The new ordinance also will give the Review Board access to the entire investigative file from Internal Affairs. Before, the board only received a summary, according to the amended ordinance.
