CHARLOTTE – Anyone looking to eliminate a paper trail can do so this weekend in the Queen City, as the Better Business Bureau is shredding documents on Oct. 19 at two locations in the city.
Or, rather, the BBB is shredding documents for individuals and small businesses to reduce the risk of stolen identities.
“Shredding personal documents is the easiest way to prevent identity theft,” said BBB President Tom Bartholomy in a release from the bureau. “Identity theft is a crime that you may not know has occurred until months after you become a victim. Then, it can take years to undo the damage that has been done by someone who obtained your personal information.”
The BBB of Oct. 19 will offer free shredding from 9 a.m. until noon at two locations in Charlotte: the IKEA parking lot, at 8300 IKEA Blvd. in the University area, and the Community Link parking lot, at 601 East Fifth St. in Uptown.
