More changes announced at NC public safety agency

RALEIGH — The government department managing North Carolina’s law enforcement agencies and the correction system is getting more changes.

Department of Public Safety Secretary Frank Perry announced Tuesday that Ellis Boyle is now deputy secretary and Gregory Baker the commissioner of law enforcement.

Boyle has been department general counsel and will retain that role with the deputy’s post. Baker has been director of the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement but will now take Perry’s old post before Perry succeeded Kieran Shanahan as secretary. Baker oversees a division with ALE, the Highway Patrol, State Capitol Police and National Guard.

Perry also announced the merger of the divisions of adult correction and juvenile justice, led by current adult correction Commissioner David Guice. Juvenile Justice chief J.R. Gorham is the new division’s executive officer.
