CHARLOTTE – For the gym rat looking for a different kind of workout, Mecklenburg County has permitted two CrossFit gyms in the area. One gym will be in Ballantyne and the other will be uptown on the first floor of the parking deck of the Catalyst apartment buildings.
The county last week issued both permits, valued at a total of $440,000. CrossFit Ballantyne, permitted for $149,000 in work, is set to go in at 11318 N. Community House Road, Unit 20. CrossFit Catalyst, valued by the county at $291,000, will go in at 415 S. Mint St.
Metrolina Builders, of Charlotte, is the contractor on CrossFit Ballantyne, according to county records. Tillman Construction, also of Charlotte, is listed as the contractor on CrossFit Catalyst.
CrossFit is an exercise program that primarily combines weight training, body-weight training and cardiovascular training to encourage an optimum level of fitness. The CrossFit brand has many licensed affiliates across the country, including some already in the Charlotte area.
