CHARLOTTE ─ Queen City-based building materials manufacturer National Gypsum Properties LLC is touting its latest product as a “Hi-Impact” drywall.

To illustrate its point, the spokeswoman for the company’s Purple line of drywall products, DIY Network’s “Mega Dens” host Anitra Mecadon, is pictured in the Hi-Impact XP drywall promotional materials swinging a softball bat at, and barely putting a dent in, what is more accurately described as a mauve wall.

The No. 2 drywall manufacturer in the country ─ it has a 23 percent chunk of the national market, according to National Gypsum website ─ has been headquartered in Charlotte since 1978 and has 17 plants across the U.S.

Other products in the Purple drywall lineup include the moisture-repelling XP, scratch- and scuff-resistant Hi-Abuse XP, and SoundBreak XP, which the company says helps acoustically dampen walls.
