Carolinas HealthCare issued $15M permit for Morrocroft Pavilion

CHARLOTTE — Mecklenburg County on Monday issued a building permit valued at $15 million to Carolinas HealthCare System for a $28 million free-standing emergency department being built at Carolinas Medical Center-Morrocroft, near SouthPark Mall.

Construction on the 30,000-square-foot building began in January, according to Kevin McCarthy, spokesman for CHS. McCarthy said the Morrocroft Pavilion, as CHS is calling the project, will have 14 treatment rooms, two observation rooms, labs and a pharmacy.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor on the project, which McCarthy said will be completed by March of 2014. The Morrocroft Pavilion will be the fifth Charlotte-area medical pavilion for CHS. The other four are in Steele Creek, Waxhaw, Kannapolis and Huntersville.

Morrocroft Pavilion is being built on a site adjacent to the medical buildings and urgent care operation at CMC-Morrocroft.
