HUNTERSVILLE – As the city of Charlotte keeps a keen eye on Eastfield Road ahead of the opening of Prosperity Church Road intersection with Interstate 485, the town of Huntersville is doing the same thing on its side of Eastfield, which runs along a major section of the border of the two municipalities.

A draft of the Eastfield Road Small Area Plan is expected next week from the town planning staff. It is described by the staff as “a long-range land-use and transportation plan that will guide future . . .decisions by the Town, developers and property owners.”

The study specifically targets the future alignment of three Huntersville thoroughfares: Hambright Road, Everette-Keith Road and Verhoeff Drive Extension.

Town Planning Director Jack Simoneau said the town’s 2011 planning document identified two “hot spots” for development in or near the Eastfield corridor: The huge mixed-use Bryton development at Old Statesville and Alexanderana roads, and the intersection with Eastfield of Prosperity Church.

“When we found out the city was doing the whole of Eastfield, we expanded our study for the whole of Eastfield,” Simoneau said.
