CM Black building $7.5M dorm for Wingate University

Concord-based CM Black Construction said it is building a $7.5 million, 60,000-square-foot dormitory for Wingate University’s main campus in Union County.

The dorm will have capacity for 300 students and is expected to be built by December and open in time for the spring 2013 semester.

It’s not CM’s first Wingate University construction project.

Emmitt Black, CM co-owner, said this is roughly the 10th project CM has built for Wingate.

“We were introduced (to Wingate) close to 14 years ago,” Black said. “We’ve pretty well done every major project on campus since then.”

CM also built the $16 million, 67,000-square-foot Levine College of Health Sciences, a project on which construction was completed in August. CM has also built three dorms, a fine arts building and classroom additions for the university.
