Bailey’s Glen kills
plan for condos,
underground parking

An underground parking facility and condos once planned for the Bailey’s Glen subdivision in Cornelius have been tossed aside.

Last week, the Cornelius Board of Commissioners unanimously approved changes to a development plan for 9.96 acres in the western portion of the subdivision, a 55-and-older active-adult community at 18200 Old Statesville Road.

New plans call for surface parking instead of the underground facility.

Plans also now call for 96 apartment units in three buildings instead of condos in the previously planned four buildings.

Also, more of the units will be one-bedroom, resulting in fewer tenants than previously planned.

Construction on the condos is expected to begin in June 2012.

K. Hovnanian was the original builder for Bailey’s Glen, but the company pulled out in 2008.

After that, a group of investors formed South Creek Homes, the construction arm of the original developers, Bluestream Partners. South Creek is building homes on the 145-acre site, said Mark O’Brien, Bailey’s Glen’s sales and marketing director.
