Office buildings in the Charlotte area had a 17.9 percent vacancy rate in the second quarter, down from more than 18 percent at the end of last year, according to a Karnes Research Co. report released this week.
The region had 552 office buildings, with a total inventory of 49.19 million square feet, in the quarter. Of that, 8.78 million square feet were vacant.
The vacancy rate is down from 18.3 percent reported at the end of 2010.
As for retail space, there were 600 buildings totaling 60.6 million square feet. Of that, 5.73 million square feet were
vacant, unchanged from the first quarter.
