Charlotte-based Babcock & Wilcox Co. said a company it helped form has been awarded a $333 million U.S. Department of Energy contract to clean contaminated waste.
The contract has been awarded to CH2M HILL-B&W West Valley, which was formed by Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, CH2M HILL Constructors and Environmental Chemical Corp.
The work involves the removal and disposal of the waste from the site of the West Valley Demonstration Project near West Valley, N.Y.
The contract will begin following a 60-day transition period that started a week ago.
B&W specializes in clean-energy technology and services, primarily for the nuclear, fossil and renewable-power markets.
