Snyder’s-Lance completes solar farm

Snyder’s-Lance Inc. said it has completed the largest ground-based solar farm in Pennsylvania.

The 26-acre, 3 1/2-megawatt farm features 5,092 solar panels and is across from the company’s manufacturing plant in Hanover.

The Charlotte-based company said the farm is expected to cover nearly 30 percent of the energy costs for the plant.

RMK Solar, of Reading, Pa., handled the installation, which started in September. Plans for the solar farm began in 2009.

“This is a very exciting time in the history of our company,” Carl Lee, president and chief operation officer of Snyder’s-Lance, said. “The solar farm shows the commitment that Snyder’s-Lance has made to creating snack products in a more sustainable way.”

Snyder’s-Lance makes snack foods. It has manufacturing facilities in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Indiana, Georgia, Arizona, Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Canada.
