Charlotte inventors aren’t the only ones who have figured out how to get major retailers with headquarters in the area to buy their products.

Local companies have done it, too.

Mooresville-based home improvement juggernaut Lowe’s also carries items manufactured and produced by companies in Mecklenburg County.

“Since the 1940s we’ve sold our drywall products to Lowe’s,” National Gypsum spokesperson Nancy Spurlock said. “They’ve carried our products in their stores for quite some time, almost since we started.”

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry has been selling their produced pipes and fittings to Lowe’s for about 10 years. While Charlotte Pipe works with many retailers around the country, spokeswoman Towanda Long said the company’s relationship with Lowe’s was helped by the location.

“We would do business with Lowe’s wherever their headquarters were located,” she said. “However, the close proximity has had a positive impact on our relationship and the ability to have face-to-face meetings with short notice.”
