Forsite Development, the developer for the proposed ReVenture Park project, told Mecklenburg County officials Monday that the company will not be using the Foxhole landfill to dispose of leftover waste or ash.
The announcement came as Forsite also said it no longer plans to take the county’s trash and convert it into energy at ReVenture.
In a letter sent to the county’s Land Use and Environmental Services Agency, Forsite said the company had planned to use a combination of incineration and gasification to dispose of garbage and generate about 20 megawatts of electricity a year to sell to local utilities, like Duke Energy.
The company now says the plant will generate about 10 megawatts, eliminating the need for the county’s waste and a backup disposal site.
County commissioners will discuss the future of the ReVenture project at their June 7 meeting.
