ESPN offices in Ballantyne being renovated

Work is under way on a renovation at offices in Ballantyne for ESPN Regional Television and ESPNU, a television channel that specializes in college sports.

Charlotte-based real estate firm Bissell Cos. owns the 37,000-square-foot building at 11001 Rushmore Drive, said Christina Thigpen, director of marketing and public relations for Bissell. Charlotte-based HarkerDoerre is the builder for the project, and Charlotte-based Smith Harris Design Association is designing the renovation, Thigpen said.

Rachel Margolis, spokeswoman for Bristol, Conn.-based ESPN, said about 20,000 square feet of the building is being renovated in order to update the production and administrative offices, including installing new workstations.

The work began in early May, and is scheduled for completion by mid-August, Margolis said. About 130 employees are housed at the office, Margolis said.

Thigpen and Margolis would not disclose the cost of the project.
