Ex-Statesville school worker charged with theft

STATESVILLE — A former employee at a school in Statesville has been arrested and charged with embezzlement from the school.

The Statesville Record & Landmark reported today that 37-year-old Crystal Juanita Wilson of Claremont is charged with 13 counts of embezzlement from the Statesville Montessori School.

Police say Wilson took between $20,000 and $40,000 of the school’s money to pay her own expenses.

Police Chief Tom Anderson says school officials discovered financial irregularities and conducted an internal review.

Anderson says Wilson is accused of using school fund to pay credit card bills, as well as tanning and salon appointments.

It was unclear today if Wilson has an attorney.
