Charlotte foreclosure filings down 56 percent over year

Foreclosure filings rose 8 percent in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord area in February from January but fell 56 percent from February 2010, Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac said today.

There were 1,159 filings, or one in every 643 housing units, in the area in February, compared with 1,078 in January and 1,384 in February 2010.

In Mecklenburg County, filings rose 17 percent in February to 835 from 714 in January. But they were down 25 percent from 1,110 in February 2010.

North Carolina had a 1.3 percent increase in filings to 3,081 in February from 3,040 in January. Filings dropped 2 percent statewide from 3,141 in February 2010.

In the U.S., filings fell 14 percent to 225,101 in February from 261,333 in January. They were down 27 percent from 308,524 in February 2010.
