The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Center City, a new $50.4 million classroom building in the heart of the city’s business district, has an executive director.

Jerry Coughter is former campus executive officer of George Mason University in Loudoun County, Va.

Construction is nearly complete on the 12-story, 143,000-square-foot building, which will open in the fall for graduate students.

The building, at Ninth and Brevard streets, will overlook a 4-acre park in the 1st Ward.
