Accounting firms to merge, open headquarters in Charlotte

Charlotte will become the headquarters of one of the largest public accounting firms in the U.S. with the merger of firms Dixon Hughes and Goodman & Co.

Dixon, which has locations across the South, and Virginia Beach, Va.-based Goodman’s merger will create Dixon Hughes Goodman, the largest public accounting firm in the South and the 13-largest in the nation.

The headquarters will be at at 6525 Morrison Blvd. in SouthPark.

The new firm will include 30 offices in 11 states, mostly along the East Coast, and more than 1,700 employees. It will have offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia and conduct business in all 50 states.

Leadership is slated to be mostly the same. Charles Edgar Sams, the current chairman of Dixon, will continue to serve as chairman of the new company, and Kenneth Hughes, CEO of Dixon, will keep his position.

Thomas Wilson, Goodman managing partner, will become deputy chairman and chief operating officer of the new firm.
