Charlotte was the eighth-highest city for job openings in 2010, job-search website CareerBliss said today.
A CareerBliss study that analyzed the number of posted jobs in metro areas found that job availability in the Charlotte area is outranking larger cities, such as Dallas, Houston and San Diego.
Investments from information technology companies, such as Arlington, Va.-based BAE Systems, which announced last month that it will open a $3 million human resources and financial operations facility in Charlotte, may be driving the growth, CareerBliss said. The study listed information technology as the No. 1 industry for job growth in the U.S. based on the number of job listings the sector in 2010.
CareerBliss CEO Heidi Golledge predicts that there will be an increase in hiring in 2011, particularly in midsized cities like Charlotte.
The top three cities on the list were New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
