MedCath agrees to sell San Antonio hospital

Charlotte-based MedCath Corp. said today it has entered into an agreement to sell substantially all the assets of San Antonio-based Texsan Heart Hospital to Methodist Healthcare System of San Antonio.

The sale is expected to be complete during MedCath’s second fiscal quarter of 2011, which ends March 31.

It is MedCath’s fifth sale since the company announced in March that it had formed a committee to consider selling either the company or its assets.

In the past month, MedCath has sold its interests in Arizona Heart Hospital, Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota, Heart Hospital of Austin, Texas, and a minority ownership its MedCath Partners division held in Southwest Arizona Heart and Vascular.

MedCath owns an interest in and operates seven hospitals with a total of 653 licensed beds in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas.
