In his 14 years at the head of what is now Cogdell Spencer Inc., Frank Spencer has led the company though a massive expansion, followed by a painful contraction during recession, to the beginnings of a recovery.
For him, that meant it was time to step away – though not completely.
Spencer, 49, is planning to let his 5-year CEO contract with Charlotte-based Cogdell Spencer expire Oct. 31. He’ll remain on the company’s Board of Directors, though, while he pursues other business and academic opportunities.
“The reality of the CEO role is that it’s all-consuming,” Spencer said. “My calendar is booked dawn to dusk and sometimes later. I’m on the road all the time.
