CHARLOTTE — Debbie Dos Santos walked away from a lucrative job with Bank of America in 2008 to spend more time with her daughter and to start Journeys, a travel agency specializing in luxury trips. With plenty of affluent connections in the banking industry, Santos’ business soared for the first six months, and then the economy bottomed out. But Santos, a single mother, persevered, and business is booming once again.
The Mecklenburg Times talked to Dos Santos, 42, about how and why she made such a drastic career transition, the keys to surviving hard times, and lessons she learned along the way.
