Linda Holden was newly divorced, going to school part time, and raising two kids. “I needed to make some money,” she said.” It was the early 1970s, and at the time she was living in an apartment complex in Endicott, N.Y. Desperate for work, she asked the apartment complex’s owner, who was also a developer and builder, for a job.
