With the ground already broken and funding approved for the 9.3-mile, $1.16 billion Lynx Blue Line Extension, the wheels are in motion for the light rail trains to go as far north as UNCC by 2017. But that’s only if the city doesn’t get in its own way in the process. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department on July 22 filed a petition, asking to change the zoning on more than 11 acres in University City to accommodate the development and construction of a park-and-ride station.
