Exterior construction is nearing completion and interior work is under way on the first eight homes of a planned 36-house urban revitalization project in Grier Heights, a distressed, historically black neighborhood in Charlotte.
The Elizabeth Heights homes — which will largely be three-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath houses in the 1,500-square-foot range, according to building permits — will sell for about $110,000 to $130,000, said Don Gately, executive director of Crossroads Corp. for Affordable Housing.
The only house built in the Abersham subdivision in Davidson sits about a mile down Greenwold Drive, a road with no signs of normal everyday wear and tear like potholes and cracks.
