The Charlotte City Council has decided to award $2.5 million, rather than $10 million, to the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, in a blow to the embattled tourism-booster group. Mayor Anthony Foxx today said he is not pleased with a Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority report based on a consultant’s review. In April, the CRVA board hired PricewaterhouseCoopers for $25,000 after criticism arose over Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association bonuses paid to a CRVA staff member. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament set an attendance record when it was held in Charlotte last month. According to figures released today from by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, the 66th annual men’s and women’s tournament had 190,000 attendees.
