Renovation Report: Unknown Brewing Co.
Up until a few months ago, breweries had to follow strict regulations if they were to be located anywhere but in city’s industrial areas. But earlier this year, the city adopted two amendments to the zoning ordinance that changed the rules about how and where brewers could set up shop.

When Todd Ford opened his brewery, Charlotte’s zoning ordinance restricted him to the fringes of the city’s business corridors, the industrial districts. Since breweries were thrown into the industrial category, Ford couldn’t set up shop as he pleased, but had to settle for what the city allowed. City releases first brewery text amendment
What the changes announced Monday won't do: open up more parts of the city, besides industrially zoned areas, to breweries. But such a change might be proposed under the second phase of studying the city's policies governing breweries, according to Bridget Dixon, a city planner.
