Many and perhaps most of the 2,600 MetLife insurance company jobs headed to North Carolina -- roughly half of them to Charlotte -- will be local hires, a top executive with the insurance giant said late Thursday afternoon.

Balfour Beatty celebrated the topping out of the future SPX headquarters Tuesday in Ballantyne Corporate Park. The nine-story Class A office building, which is owned by Charlotte-based The Bissell Co., includes 230,000 square feet of space and a four-story, 640-space parking garage. LS3P, an architectural firm founded in Charleston, S.C., with an office in Charlotte, designed the building.

A plan by Bissell Cos. to improve roadway infrastructure in the Ballantyne Corporate Park area in exchange for synthetic tax increment financing has been sent to the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners’ economic development committee. Honda broke ground today on its new 25,000-square-foot North Carolina regional office in Charlotte. The facility will be in Ballantyne Corporate Park. The Bissell Cos. is almost finished construction on an office building in Ballantyne in south Charlotte, one of the city’s fastest growing markets.
