Babcock & Wilcox reports lower 1Q earnings

B&W awarded $35 contract with Finnish firm

Charlotte-based Babcock & Wilcox Co. said today that its Denmark-based subsidiary has been awarded a $35 million contract with Finland-based EkoKem OY to supply equipment for a 36 megawatt waste-to-energy heat and power plant in Riihimäki, Finland. The subsidiary will design, manufacture and build the plant’s heat recovery boiler. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2013.


Babcock & Wilcox lands $79M naval nuclear fuel contract extension

Charlotte-based Babcock & Wilcox Co. said its subsidiary has been awarded a $79 million extension on a contract to make fuel for the U.S. Navy. Nuclear Fuel Services, based in Erwin, Tenn., makes the fuel for the Navy’s nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines. B&W has locations worldwide and employs roughly 12,000.
