The largest municipality in Mecklenburg County outside Charlotte exploded in population — from 3,000 to 50,000 — in the past 20 years, and it just keeps on exploding. Fortunately, it’s been a largely happy explosion for Huntersville so far, town Planning Director Jack Simoneau said.

Things are pretty “laid back” real estate-wise in Mint Hill, according to town planner John Hoard. But the possible revival of an upscale-mall project could put some excitement back into this southeast Mecklenburg County town.
