Construction spending rises for 3rd straight month

U.S. builders spent more in October on homes, offices and shopping centers, pushing construction spending up for a third straight month. Despite the gains, construction spending remained depressed. Construction spending rose 0.8 percent in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $798.5 billion, the Commerce Department said this month.

Use of certified wood drops in 2011 LEED projects (access required)

This year, significantly fewer Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design projects specified the use of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. A recent report issued by GreenBiz Group found FSC wood was used in only 26 percent of new LEED construction in 2011, down from 41 percent last year.
