The architects who participated in The Mecklenburg Times’ challenge to create a modern “Charlotte-style” house and received jury awards and the most votes from the public will be revealed at an October breakfast.
The Mecklenburg Times will be hosting a panel discussion at the breakfast, titled “Future Charlotte: Building a Vision,” from 7:30-9:20 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Byron’s South End.
The panel of community leaders and developers will discuss their vision for how we should build on the present; how we will live and work in the future; what we want to become; and who will take us there. The program is anticipated to become a yearly event focusing on future development in the city.
Earlier this year, The Mecklenburg Times, in partnership with the American Institute of Architects Charlotte chapter, invited area architects to present their vision of a modern house that would draw on the history, culture, geography and natural resources of the area to create a uniquely “Charlotte-style” house.
Ten entries were submitted, and a panel of industry professionals were gathered to asses them. In addition, signs depicted the creations were displayed around town and the public invited to vote.
