CHARLOTTE – To make way for the Independence Boulevard Expressway expansion, demolition continues along the thoroughfare, and this time the body shop and detail shop at Folger Subaru dealership are set to go down in rubble.
Mecklenburg County has issued the three permits, valued at $40,420, for demolition work at 5701 E. Independence Blvd., the site of the car dealership, according to county records.
Rural Hall-based MBH Enterprises is the general contractor for the demolition, the records show.
The impending expansion and widening of Independence Boulevard Expressway is a $150 million project that will extend the freeway from Albemarle Road, where it now ends, to Conference Drive, just east of Idlewild Road.
The buildings at Folger Subaru will join several other buildings, including the former Office Depot and Charlotte Auto Collection, which have been torn down for the freeway expansion.
