Shelco permitted for more renovation work at Independence High School

CHARLOTTE – Shelco, a Charlotte-based general contractor, has been permitted by Mecklenburg County to continue work on a nearly $14-million renovation project at Independence High School at 1967 Patriot Drive in Mint Hill.

The county issued a permit last week, valued at $239,800, for Shelco to start work on replacing the visitor bleachers at the Patriots’ football stadium – which in the 2000s was a miserable place for visiting fans, when Independence football won 109 straight games.

Earlier this month, Shelco was permitted for more than $8 million in work on renovating the school’s gymnasium and $330,000 for work on a new concessions building, according to county records.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools website, construction on the bleachers and concession building will be done by August, in time for the new school year.
