CHARLOTTE – Brian Crutchfield, owner of Charlotte-based Crutchfield Homes, has filed a rezoning petition with the city in an effort to reopen a vacant childcare facility on Sharon Road.
The petition, which was filed on March 25, is seeking “to accommodate a child care center that may serve a maximum of 125 children and the renovation and expansion of the existing building located on the site. The renovated and expanded building may contain a maximum of 7,000 square feet of gross floor area.”
The land is zoned R-3, which is a residential zoning classification that allows, at most, three units per acre. Crutchfield is asking for a switch to a Neighborhood Services zoning classification, which allows all B-1 uses, including a childcare center, according to Solomon Fortune, a planner with the city.
This rezoning request will have a public hearing on June 20 at 6 p.m. in front of the Charlotte City Council. The meeting will be held in the meeting chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 E. Fourth St.
