CHARLOTTE – Providence Preparatory School, a school off Providence Road, is seeking to change the zoning on 1.8 acres of land to add a building that would house preschool and afterschool programs.
In the rezoning request, Providence Prep asks to rezone the land “to permit a preschool/child development center accommodating approximately 178 children, infant through pre-Kindergarten, and an afterschool program elementary school age children, in a building that’s 13,000 (plus-or-minus) square feet.”
The current zoning on the parcel of land, at 3501 Providence Road, is R-3. This zoning classification is for single-family residential development and allows a maximum of three units per acre. Providence Prep wants to change the zoning to an institutional use, which is required for the school’s plans for the new building.
The public hearing for this rezoning will be at the Charlotte City Council’s June 17 meeting at 6 p.m. in the meeting chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, at 600 E. Fourth St.
